Collectors coming out of the blue 6 years later?

I got a ticket when i was 15 for improper lane usage and no insurance, i know the insurance was dropped, and we paid the rest of the ticket off.. the court is saying i never did, and i know there is no point in trying to argue with them because there is no winning. As far as the collectors though, im wondering if i have any legal standpoint try and get the interest gone, I have never got a single notice from them since i was 15 (im 22 now) Until just yesterday, they let the account sit for 6 years collecting interest and not even notifying me that I had an account with them. Is there anything I can do? 6 years is an awfully long time to be able to hide something so they can collect more money.
