Watching "R" rated movies in front of 2 year old?

I was just curious of anyone has ever watched an "R" or even "PG13" rated movie in front of a toddler? I know I don' want my child to pick up on bad language and I know when its scary or gory my daughter gets scared and has nightmares. However, there are times when I cannot appease her, she wants to just hang out in the living room, and I really just want to sit back and watch a movie. What should someone do in this situation?
