Driving from NY to ATL?

I am driving to Atlanta, GA from NY. Does anyone know any good hotels off I-81 in Virginia? Somewhere that is nice, but reasonable, close to the highway, and safe. Preferably closer to Roanoke, but not that far south. THANKS!
