Why people still write poetry?

We know that poetry is highly subjective. Anyone can trash our best work and we can't do anything about it. It seems to me that a prefect poem is only a concept and can never be written. Only a poet knows how hard work goes in making a good poem and yet chances of it been published are less than winning a small lotto at a gas station. My question is why people spend thousands of hours on writing and rewriting poems that probably no one is going to appreciate of fully understand. Can't we be "poets" without writing it but just living it. To be a poet is something how we see things with our open eyes and feel from our heart. Then why we subject to others so much frustration s and rejections? Why, I mean why people still write poetry even though that's the most misunderstood art form and monetary gain is nothing compared to the hours and hours a poet puts in making a poem?
